Description
In lieu of some of those, "Redraw ___" pictures, I did something similar to one of my old favorites.
I originally drew this by hand on a half piece of printer paper. When i was satisifed, I uploaded it to my computer to color it in, and thus we have picture one. My goal with the piece was to portray a sense on loniless, patience, and hope. Absol knows that mega-evolution is in it's future, but it is currently awaiting a trainer powerful enough to allow that to happen. Thus it waits, day and night, for that fateful encounter.
Though satisfied with that piece, with time comes experience, so I wanted to redraw it. My original thought was to do the same old picture I always do (the middle picture), but once I filled in the initial colors, I decided to try something different for a change. I decided to draw it, "no-lines".
That determination on mind, I took the next two weeks of sporadic drawing sessions to flesh it out, shade it etc.
Overall, I'm incredibly glad how it turned out. As this was my first no-lines piece in forever, I'm excited to see how I can improve upon it later.
Notable changes for composition:
* Instead of having the stars form Mega Absol, I let the clouds form it, and the sky fill it instead. It makes it subtler, but I feel has a nicer look to it. Less cluttered.
* The moon went from being the horn, to the hair. I figured I'm updating the picture, why not?
* I went from a field, to an ocean. I wanted something that felt more vast, and the ocean felt right. Plus it kept the overall colors dark, which kept the moon and Absol the focus.
* I tilted Absol's head back. This makes it more noticeable that she is looking up, and adds a sense of longing. It's also a homage to dogs howling at the moon, which was on of the inspirations of the original. I also wanted to give Absol a mane, so I touched it up.
* I gave Absol some way to show off her other two feet. Sure, I ended up only showing one, but still it look better, and was supposed to portray eagerness.
* I added a wilted flower to the cliffside to represent the despair of Absol.
* Finally, I did my best to subtly represent the mega stone "symbol" in the reflection in the water. I originally had it more blatant, but it detracted more than added, thus I slimmed it down to what it is now. There;s the S shape, but I bet none of you noticed that it was the mega symbol before now so...

I really like the contrast of the clouds and stars in the one on the left.
